Effective April 1st, 2024, BNSF has implemented a new process for employees to take a medical leave. Prior to this change an employee only needed to supply a doctor's note excusing the employee from work for 10 or more days to Leaves Admin. As with everything BNSF does, this process is now more difficult. One benefit of this new process is that a medical leave is no longer limited to 60 days as it was with the old process. As info, time on medical leave will be designated and counted against your annual FMLA leave entitlement.
To secure a medical leave of absence an employee now has two steps that need to be completed.
The employee must initiate the request using the myBNSFBenefits portal at https://mybnsfbenefits.com
Click on BNSF Railway Employee Logon
Logon with your BNSF Logon info, you will need MobilePass+ to logon
Click on Time Off / Leave
Click on Medical Leave
Click on the Medical Leave Process Tab
Answer the questions about your leave
Once you have initiated the request you will be provided with the proper certification form that must be completed by your doctor and either emailed or faxed from their office. I suggest you keep a copy of this paperwork just in case there are attendance issues later on.
All updates on the leave will be provided in the Employee Leave Dashboard. Link to the dashboard: FMLA & MLOA Leave Application and Tracking System
